stairway to nowhere

How crazy is it that summer is ending for most of us in mere weeks? This is the time of year when I always play oblivious to the calendar and purposely turn a blind eye to back-to-school talk – at least for now. Sure I am stoked for fall fashions, but would trade my sweaters and coats any day for a gauzy dress (like this one) and warm summer nights. I have already watched (in terror) as several leaves are slowly succumbing to gravity’s pull and falling towards the ground; I think I am quite prepared for springtime to come again.

Today I paid my campus a visit and the reality really hit home that books and exams would be my new daily mantra quite soon. Right now however I’d like to cling to the last bits of summertime I have left, and enjoy the lazy days of soaking up the warm sunshine.

peachy keen

Providence is such a gorgeous city, one which I don’t visit nearly enough despite the fact that it is so close to home. The architecture is something that always gets me when I stop by – everything is so quaint and pleasing to the eye. Honestly I could wander through its streets with my head in the clouds for days (of course then I might get run over since it is a city), and one of my favorite spots to marvel at this is up and around Thayer St. where I was today. This street is laden with cute shops, unique restaurants and surrounded by stunning buildings; just the tip of the iceberg of what Providence offers.

While wandering, I managed to enjoy some window-shopping, falafel and relaxing under the shade of ancient trees (where I could safely admire all that was around me). I stumbled across this intricate peach wall/arch that matched my outfit so well it was as if we both planned a complementary rendezvous together. Soft colors of peach, airy whites and shiny silvers was the color pallet of choice, and it offered a relaxing cool against the warm weather haze. I have owned most of these pieces for years and years (not as long as this building has been up though) and I always get excited when I create an outfit I have never worn before. I am sure I’ll be repeating this one a few more times…

the far north

There is certainly nothing better than the warm sunshine, beautiful scenery and the people you love around you, which is how I am spending my weekend in Maine. Not too shabby if I do say so myself. I am looking forward to a weekend full of relaxing and great memories we will definitely be talking about for months to come. Hope you all enjoy yours!!

belt magic

I swear to you I am not a safari animal collector, but stores are stocked full of these delightful goodies that it is hard to say no. I must say, I am rather proud of my growing collection, and if designers keep this up there’s no knowing when I’ll stop!

Lets all just admit it – this belt is pretttttty amazing. Part updated fanny-pack (you can store stuff in the front zipper – how wild!), part decorative wonder; this belt can truly make an outfit. Plus, the darling colors offer endless possibilities with any outfit, for any season. Wear it with a dress, skirt, pants, to sleep… I am undeniably charmed at this purchase to say the least!

elephants mean good luck

So, as promised here is a small sample of my purchases from yesterday – and it all begins with a parade (or pile) of elephants. How adorable is this dress? I thought it was too endearing to resist, so thankfully it was on the sale rack at Anthropologie, or I’d be a sad shopper. There are elephants everywhere and on every small detail of this dress. Every turn uncovers more and more of these gentle giants – more than I ever dreamed possible in English blues, whites and grays. Its Indian flair inspires me to run to the nearest zoo and hop on an elephant ride, or better yet saunter through the streets with this as my means of transportation instead.

red white and bike

I have had (and am about to have) a rather eventful and exciting week. This past Sunday I went to the Boston Arcade Fire concert with some comrades. It was a fantastic show! And in two days (!) my friends and I are traveling to Maine for our annual group retreat. The thought of stuffing 11 people into a teeny quaint cabin might sound terrifying, but I am deliriously excited and can’t believe it is almost here!! It is a little bittersweet however, because it marks the last month of summertime. But I am looking forward to the crisp air, Maine activities and some good, old-fashioned bonding time.

In my excitement, I reached for one of my go-to (and favorite) patriotic color pallet. I love this outfit, and it combines all of my favorite outfit elements: whimsical prints, red lip stain, Marc Jacobs ;), and this H&M top which was the best-30-dollars-ever-spent by far. I have worn this thing to death and intend to wear it as long (or longer) than possible. I’m positive you will see numerous posts of me wearing it. I wore this on a little shopping spree at a fantastic shopping plaza my Floridian friend told me about. There were all of my favorites – Anthropologie, Free People, UO etc. etc. – and I managed to find some amazing things. I’m excited to show you! Stay tuned ;)

true blue and candy shoes

Sometimes I like things painfully ladylike and elegant, and today was one of those days. It took me all of my strength to refrain from donning a pair of sweet gloves and some charming lip color, yet I substituted a pair of darling candy kitten heels for all of that instead. This Eugenia Kim pair has been with me for many years, yet I remember the purchase as if it were yesterday: I saw them from afar at the Saks outlet, hunted down my size, noticed the sale sign above the rack, pondered my options for a millisecond and then carried them to the cashier. I often don’t favor kitten heels – but I surely love these!

Besides being fond of quirky footwear, I adore designer plus store collaborations like Target’s Go International (from where this dress arose). I know I am not alone in thinking that it is about time that designers finally make clothing, shoes and accessories affordable for the everyday gal. However I am disappointed that there has been a sudden absence in designer showcases at Target. Come on lets get on with it and show me some Marc, Miu Miu, Chloé…
