For the most part, I have always kept away from the "matchy-matchy" look -- it's just not my personal style. However, I've been warming up to that approach, and am really loving the look of matching patterns, especially skirts/pants + shoes. It achieves such a fresh look without trying too hard, and is best if the top is kept simple and classic. 

(PS sorry for the J. Crew overload, they are killing it with their patterns right now).

After months of searching, I've finally found a bug print that suits my style -- (actually, I found it months ago, and it finally hit the sale rack). It's the ideal mix of girly, bright and unexpected. I especially love how detailed each bug is, and how from far away they look like oversized polka dots.

summer favorite: ankle tie sandals

bad hair day fix: messy rainy day updo

Sometimes theres no point in fighting frizz on rainy days. 

Here is a bad hair day fix that lets you embrace the inevitable mess rainy days cause in an easy messy updo.

1. Brush hair out and pull back into a low ponytail.

2. Tease, tease, tease your ponytail with a bristle brush (I used a large round one) until you create a lot of volume. Hairspray if desired.

3. Gather hair into a bun-like shape and clip the top and bottom of your hair with a hair clip. The messier the better! It doesn't need to be precise -- these clips are being used to help hold the updo in place while you pin. 

4. Take a bunch of bobby pins, and pin your hair into place. Once all sides are secured, remove the hair clips. You can go back and tease/pull/pin hair until you reach a messy look that you like. Finish off with hairspray if desired.

Done! -- Happy bad hair day!

These polishes have been on rotation for the past few weeks mostly because I am smitten with the sunny floral colors. But they are a surprisingly great basic nail color -- with a twist of course. Yellow substituting cream or browns, lilac for blues.

I'm cheating on all of the stripes in my life -- I just can't help it -- polka dots have taken over. This outfit almost didn't happen when I almost gave up on this skirt. The original hem paired with the high waist and full skirt felt almost dowdy for everyday looks, but how cute is the print? Especially paired with smaller dots? Yes please. Thankfully, it completely transformed after chopping off a few inches, and I can't wait to wear it all year long.
