feminine//masculine

Taking a feminine piece and throwing in a few masculine elements is nothing new, but it is a style I gravitate towards time and time again. I love surprises and details in an outfit -- especially when they seem ordinary at first glance. This dress's beautiful floral print and sheer high-low cut is ideal for a summer wedding, but assumes a whole new look when paired with a shrunken blazer and a men's vintage bull's head belt.

bad hair day fix: the braided bun

Buns are hands down my go-to for bad hair days. Here is a twist on this classic style that literally took me five minutes and saved me from a day of hating my hair:

1. Gently brush hair out -- best when it is a day old/looks like a hot mess -- I used a wide tooth comb to avoid brushing out too much of the texture, just the snarls. Then divide hair half up half down, reserving more for the top than the bottom using a dividing tool.

2. Twist the top section into a bun and secure with a clear elastic.

3. Take the bottom section of your hair and begin a loose upside down braid. This will ensure that the braid will sit easily on your head when you twist it around your bun. Secure with a clear elastic.

4. Loosen the braid -- don't be afraid to make it look messy.

5. Twist the braid around your bun and secure with bobby pins on all sides.

6. Pull pieces out to frame your face.

7. Add a pair of oversized earrings to further frame your face -- mine are from Kate Spade.

Done! Let me know if you guys try this out//if you like these posts!

Happy bad hair day!

day to night: beach essentials

With Memorial Day fast approaching, promises of tropical vacations or all day beach trips are on the brain. Here are a few of my essentials for going from day to night while hanging out on the seashore -- all conveniently found at Amazon.com

For DAY, I like bringing an oversized beach bag, easy shoes, classic sunnies and a bottle of Maui Babe (this stuff is amazing -- seriously. go.buy.it.now.).

For NIGHT, it's an easy change to bright heels, a mini straw clutch, bold earrings, tinted lip balm and of course a fun iPhone case.

basics with a twist

If you break this outfit down, it is nothing but a collection of basics -- a button down, a denim mini, wide belt, and a neutral tote. However, I love the twist that's given to each piece -- sheer fabric, shocking pink, an anchor buckle -- it keeps this look far from boring through the smallest details.

summer's favorite whites

A crisp white outfit is so refreshing at this time of year, which is why I love these two looks so much -- summer's favorite jacket and summer's favorite dress. These pieces are warm weather staples, yet done with those special little details in mind -- skinny black piping, or an oversized eyelet fabric -- perfect with any pop of color.

hello yellow

I love yellow. I feel like if I had to choose one color to fill my closet for the rest of my life, that would be it. I am wearing a Walter Baker top in the sunniest lemon hue and pretty pleating. I could see myself pairing it with almost anything, but I especially love it with an equally as bold polka dot skirt, and straw accessories.

red + black + white by lulus.com

I've been wearing this color combo on repeat since my brief absence from the internet world. Since red/white/blue is one of my favorite colors for summer, this is a great alternative when you need a small change. And of course lulus.com has these pretty tops with special detailing -- like a cut out heart back, or high low hem -- to wear all season long.

Also a big thank you to all the well wishes for finals week! So glad its over
I hope all of my student readers had success in yours as well!! xoxo
