In case you haven’t noticed, I find nothing better than mixing prints – especially when there is some whimsy involved. I love this outfit, and although it is rather simplistic, it still has some surprises around every corner. I always find clothes more special when you sweat the small stuff and pay attention to detail; may it be some lemon piping on a sweet pair of shoes, a muted pattern paired with something more bold or a surprise fox brooch hidden behind your hair.

backpack madness

Many, many years ago, I ditched my backpack and stubbornly took to carrying all of my books in hand. I would stuff my entire collection of notebooks, various bic pens (blue only please), my computer, water and snacks into my poor purses or totes and walk to class. Now, my arms are not strong to begin with, so I struggled daily to hold on to all of my personal belongings, a daily occurrence that worsened in the winter and became a huge predicament when it rained. But I vehemently refused to use a backpack – strange, I know. I eventually succumbed to borrowing my roommate’s bag and slowly understood the wonders of the backpack, vowing to get my own. So, with school almost a week away, maybe I should start thinking of fulfilling that promise, or suffer another year of dropping my possessions everywhere. Here is a composition of my favorites – because you can’t just have any old backpack, can you?

all in a golden afternoon

This lovely yellow dress has been hiding in my closet all summer, and strangely this is the first time I have worn it, which is a shame. But luckily today’s warm breeze called for something of this nature, and so it made its debut. I first admired this Tahari number back in the spring (or earlier?) at some expensive shop like Bloomies or Neiman Marcus. The detailing on this dress is nothing short of exquisite – just look at the straps and lovely bodice, not to mention the delicate way its sheer yellow fabric moves in the wind. After placing it back on the shelf – something I do quite too often, I hoped one day I would own it. As luck would have it, I found the same dress at a Tahari outlet mere months later for a price I could swing.

I enjoyed the great outdoors all afternoon today in shades of yellow and gold, as my summer is dwindling to an end and I have mere days left.... I am being forced to savor these moments quickly and will have to try to stuff last minute summer activities into this week before fall approaches. Boo!

rewind

Firstly, no I have not been hiding in a cave or hibernating away from my computer, nor have all of my cameras fallen into a black hole. So I suppose I hold no true excuse for my infrequent and delayed posting this past week. However, some exciting events have transpired in the past few days. This includes the end of monsoon season (!), a new apartment (officially!!) and some household duties I was strongly recommended to accomplish (hi dad!). After the freak rains we had, it seemed like every single leaf from the trees surrounding my backyard decided to fall and litter its premises. Needless to say, I spend an afternoon of fun playing one-zillion leaf pickup. Sounds like a good time right?

Unsurprisingly I rushed at the chance to get out of my house and dressed in my Sunday’s best, enjoyed the warm weather for the first time in days. I remember seeing this 60s-inspired See by Chloe dress and carefully stalking it until it went on sale. I was truly delighted when I could actually afford it because it is such a statement on itself and something I know I’ll have for a long time. This dress feels like stepping back in time – almost as if it was my own personal time machine. I am just waiting for my dad to wind some ridiculous tales about his childhood and ask me if “I’m hip with it” or using complimenting words like “groovy”… no such luck yet but I feel it coming… ;)

we were all so fast asleep

It might seem like rain has been pouring out of the sky for weeks on end, when in reality it has only been a few days of this dismal weather. I am sure I am not the only one who is ready for sunny skies again, yet it provides the perfect excuse for small catnaps and snuggling under warm sweaters. Rain remains a steady and compelling excuse for lazy days in front of the TV or curled up with a good book or even for hanging out with your favorite brother. Something I am unashamed to take advantage of – everyone needs a lazy day here or there right? This outfit is a compilation of sleepy, relaxing colors, textures and fabrics and although most is from an unknown place it will suit my rainy day just fine.

Deep down, I am a hippie at heart…I think it’s the hair – there’s no denying it. Consequently, my clothes and accessories often reflect that attitude. I tend to gravitate towards bohemian nods, may it be a full-length dress, piles of rings, a slouchy top or lovely flower accessories. I find something so endearing and effortless about it. Besides that I really dig layering with dresses. It presents a fresh look and silhouette which can be done in a myriad of different ways thus allotting more mileage to a summer dress – and versatility is something we all like right? I must say, I am quite fond of this look (as well as this sweater which I will probably wear down until there are nothing but holes and will in all honesty continue wearing it far after) and am excited to see slouchy, poncho-esque shapes for fall fashion – perfect for us tree huggers.
