ballerina buns and boiler rooms

Out of habit, I usually wear my hair down whenever I put on a long floor-length dress. It gives the dress an extra dose of some hippie spirit that I am naturally quite fond of. It also lends a relaxed air in contrast to the extra fabric. However, I decided to shake things up today and wear my hair in a high ballerina bun. The results were something quite elegant and lovely, which I think I might try more often.

This dress is something I pulled from the sales racks at French Connection a few years ago after months of stalking it. I was instantly drawn to its super long length, the pretty geometric patterns and subdued colors. I would try it on every time I saw it and marvel at its body lengthening capabilities. The only hiccup I had? The cutouts in the dress (as well as the plunging neckline) were a little too scandalous for me to wear in the daytime. Luckily, I have this adorable little bralette I scooped up from Free People to mend these concerns. Add a few accessories and this look is perfection, no?

{French Connection maxi dress; Sam Edelman sandals; Free People bralette; random flower bracelet; Urban Outfitters leaf bracelet}

  31. It's the perfect festival dress--provided you don't live anywhere too hot. I have made the mistake of wearing a maxi dress on a number of occasions when I ended up wishing I could hack off the bottom 3 ft. of the dress so my legs could get some air!
